Is Scentsy Safe? Ingredients & Testing

Safety You Can Trust
Safety questions are among the most common we receive, and they deserve thorough answers. Here's what you need to know about Scentsy product safety.
Wax Ingredients
Scentsy uses a proprietary wax blend (primarily food-grade paraffin wax) combined with fragrance oils. The exact formula is proprietary, but Scentsy has stated their wax contains no lead, no toxic chemicals, and no known carcinogens. The wax is designed to melt at a low temperature — well below the point that could cause burns.
Fragrance Testing
Every Scentsy fragrance is tested for safety compliance before release. Scentsy follows guidelines established by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA), which sets standards for safe fragrance ingredient use. Each fragrance undergoes stability testing, safety evaluation, and performance testing before reaching customers.
Warmer Safety
Scentsy warmers are tested to meet or exceed UL (Underwriters Laboratories) safety standards — the same standards applied to other consumer electronics. The warming elements are designed for continuous operation at safe temperatures. There is no open flame, no combustion, and no soot production.
Low-Temperature Design
Unlike candles that burn wax at extremely high temperatures, Scentsy warmers melt wax at approximately 150–170°F (depending on the warmer type). This is warm enough to release fragrance effectively but low enough to minimize burn risk. If you touch melted Scentsy wax, it's warm — not scalding.
Around Children
Scentsy warmers are significantly safer than candles in homes with children. No flame eliminates fire risk. The low wax temperature reduces burn severity if touched. However, warmers should still be placed out of children's reach as a common-sense precaution.
Around Pets
Scentsy wax is non-toxic. If a pet ingests a small amount, it will likely pass without harm. However, keep warmers positioned where pets can't knock them over and monitor for fragrance sensitivity signs.
Manufacturing Quality
Scentsy manufactures in their own Idaho facility with direct quality control over every batch. This vertical integration ensures consistent safety standards that outsourced manufacturing can't always guarantee.
