How to Clean Your Scentsy Warmer (Step-by-Step)

A Clean Warmer = Better Fragrance
A clean Scentsy warmer doesn't just look better — it performs better. Wax residue, dust, and buildup can reduce fragrance throw and make your warmer look dull. The good news: cleaning takes less than 5 minutes and should be done every time you change your wax.
Method 1: The Cotton Ball Method (Easiest)
- Turn on your warmer and let the old wax melt completely (about 10 minutes)
- Turn off the warmer
- Place 2-3 cotton balls into the melted wax
- Let the cotton balls absorb the wax (they soak it right up)
- Once absorbed, remove the cotton balls and discard them
- Wipe the dish with a dry paper towel to remove any remaining residue
This method is the most popular because it's mess-free and requires nothing special — just cotton balls you probably already have.
Method 2: The Pour-Out Method
- Turn on the warmer and let the wax melt completely
- Carefully pour the melted wax into a lined trash can (never down the drain!)
- Wipe the dish clean with a paper towel
This is faster but slightly messier. Use a paper towel to hold the hot dish if needed — it will be warm.
Method 3: The Freeze Method
- Turn off the warmer and let the wax harden completely
- If your warmer dish is removable, place it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes
- The cold causes the wax to contract and pop right out of the dish in one piece
- Wipe any remaining residue with a paper towel
This works best with warmers that have removable dishes. Don't put the entire warmer in the freezer — just the dish.
Cleaning the Outside of Your Warmer
For the exterior, use a slightly damp cloth to wipe away dust and fingerprints. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners — they can damage the finish. For stubborn spots, a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad works well without damaging the glaze.
How Often Should You Clean?
- Wax dish: Every time you change scents, or when the current wax has lost its fragrance
- Exterior: Weekly or whenever you notice dust buildup
- Bulb check: Every few months, check the bulb (if applicable) and replace if dimming
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Never pour wax down the drain — it solidifies and causes clogs
- Don't add water to the dish — warmers are designed for wax only
- Don't scrape with metal utensils — you'll scratch the dish
- Don't overfill — 1-2 cubes is plenty. Overfilling doesn't increase fragrance and makes cleanup harder
A well-maintained warmer lasts for years. Spend 5 minutes cleaning it each time you swap scents, and it will continue looking beautiful and performing at its best.
